The Mono County Sheriff Search & Rescue (SAR) team was called out on February 4, 2006 at 1:30pm when Jeff Perrault, age 31, of Moorepark, CA, slid 100 yards down a slope while snowshoeing on the Mammoth Rock Trail near old Mammoth Road.
Perrault and his girlfriend were snowshoeing when he slid down the slope hitting a tree. Two other couples snowshoeing came across Perrault lying in the snow complaining of lower back pain, and called 911 for assistance.
The SAR team extracted Perrault on a litter via snowmobiles and met the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department ambulance at the end of Old Mammoth Road in the "Bluffs" subdivision. The ambulance transported Perrault to Mammoth Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
