The team is made up of Mono County residents, both men and women, who are at least 18 years old.
We are always seeking new members, who have a dedication to public service, a willingness to devote personal time to learn our techniques, and a valid California driver's license.
Check our Join Our Team - We Need You Page for information about our annual Spring new member activity.
Though all members are volunteers, the team works under the direction of the Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Coordinator, and responds to a wide variety of missions, including searches for the lost and missing in all types of terrain and weather, rescues and evacuations of all sorts, and many other missions of unique character as needed.
Prior to June 1994 we were known as the June Lake Mountain Rescue Team. Check the History Page for more background on the team.
A typical overnight search involves 8-16 volunteers donating their time and providing their own personal equipment.
We average five missions per month, often under adverse and dangerous mountain conditions.
If you feel at home in the mountains and would like to train with us, talk to a member or call the Sheriff's Office at (760) 932-7549. Check the Team Membership Page for complete information about membership requirements.
You are welcome to visit team meetings which are held on the Second Wednesday of each month, normally at 6 P.M. at the SAR Building in Mammoth Lakes. Contact to verify time and place.
