The Mono County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team
is a volunteer, non-profit organization that performs search and rescue operations primarily in Mono County in the Eastern Sierra. The team is funded in part by the Mono County Sheriff and in part by donations from numerous organizations including rescued victims.
The Sheriff's Office is responsible for search and rescues in California, but relies heavily on the personnel, technical expertise and equipment of local volunteer rescue and medical groups. The cooperation is remarkable, but providing volunteers with the equipment and advanced skills required to properly aid people in remote and difficult situations is costly. Radios, pagers, medical supplies, litters and wilderness emergency medical training are examples of the support that is needed.
